Secretary General
On Tuesday 19 December 2023, Peter Oskam was sworn in as Secretary General of the House of Representatives. The Secretary General advises the House, the President of the House and the Presidium on procedural and constitutional aspects of the House's activities. In addition, he is responsible for the House’s administrative body. During plenary sittings, he is seated at the President's right hand.
The Rules of Procedure confer a number of duties and powers directly on the Secretary General. These duties are laid down in sections 10, 13, 14 and 15 of the Rules of Procedure.
Peter Oskam
Peter Oskam (1960) was mayor of Cappelle aan den IJssel in South Holland since early 2016. Before this, he was a member in the House of Representatives for the CDA (2012-2016). Other facets of his carreer include an employment at the municipal police of The Hague, public prosecutor at the public prosecution service of Rotterdam and between 2006-2012 he was a lawyer in The Hague, after which he became the vicepresident of the law courts in Arnhem and Amsterdam. Oskam studied law at Erasmus Univeristy Rotterdam, and specialised in Dutch law. Between 1992 and 2004 he was a referee in professional soccer games.
