Biography

“Everything is simple at its core”

My political career started with the LPF, when I became a member of the party executive in Zuid-Holland. In 2004, I was part of a group that wanted to stop the extreme increase in property tax in Hardinxveld-Giessendam. It took us only two weeks to form the group, and all of a sudden I found myself meeting with delegates from all kinds of institutions and organisations at my dinner table. I became the spokesperson for the group, which eventually succeeded in reducing the tax hike from 85% to 55%. My experience with the group pushed me to embark on a career in politics.

Good listener

My defining trait as an MP is that I am a good listener. I want to fight for Dutch people with all my might and it is my goal to put Dutch people first. My main tenet as an MP is that everything, even the most complicated issue imaginable, is simple at its core.

Photo diary

When I am not working, you can often find me listening to music. My taste in music is very diverse: I used to be a member of a Ramones fan club – an American punk band – but now I regularly listen to John Denver’s country music. I also enjoy gardening and photography, which is why the digital diary I keep is full of photos. I am sure that I will run into plenty interesting situations to capture on film now that I am an MP.
