NATO Secretary General visits Dutch Parliament
On Thursday, 19 April 2018, NATO Secretary General Jens Stoltenberg visited The Hague. The president of the House of Representatives, Ms Khadija Arib, and the president of the Senate, Ms Ankie Broekers-Knol, received him in the historical Stadholder's Room in the building of the House of Representatives. Mr Stoltenberg also met with members of the Foreign Affairs and Defence committees of both chambers.
Subjects for discussion
During the meeting Stoltenberg had with members of parliament several subjects were discussed, including the defence budget, the security situation in Europe (and relations with Russia in particular), cyber security and fake news, participation in NATO missions (in Afghanistan for instance) and the preparation of the biannual summit of heads of state and government of NATO member states on 11 and 12 July in Brussels.
Jens Stoltenberg is the North Atlantic Treaty Organization's (NATO) thirteenth secretary general. The former Norwegian prime minister has been NATO's chief since 1 October 2014. The highest representative of NATO regularly visits NATO member states.
