Peace and security
Minister Frans Timmermans for Foreign Affair s recently published – also on behalf of some of his colleagues – a paper on international security policy. The Netherlands will continue working to promote the international legal order, and peace and security. With its open economy, the Netherlands depends on other countries for its prosperity and security.
Active role
By playing an active role in the EU, NATO and the UN The Netherlands helps promote peace and security in the world, while also protecting the interests of the country itself. For this reason the Netherlands is campaigning for a seat on the UN Human Rights Council for the 2015-2017 period and for a seat on the UN Security Council for the 2017-2018 period.
Before a debate with the minister on this paper, the standing committee for foreign affairs invited experts and stakeholders to share their opinions in a public round table conference.
